Identify Types of Pipe Fittings Used in Piping
Pipe fittings mean different types of plumbing hardware like pipers, adapters, etc. the pipe fittings are produced in various qualities to provide a reliable and hassle-free plumbing solution. A safe and robust pipe fitting ensures trouble-free days.
Broken or improperly installed fittings may lead to leakage, which will ruin the walls and property destruction. You can avoid these hues by installing and checking your pipe fittings regularly. Maintaining a healthy plumbing system can save you from a lot of hassle. Different types of pipe joints are used in plumbing to join multiple pipes of either the same or different sizes, to regulate the smooth flow.
What are Pipe Fittings?
Pipe fittings and adapters are components used to join pipe systems and other fluid control products like pumps and valves to create pipelines. The common connotation for the term fittings is associated with the ones used for plastic and metal pipes that carry fluids. Several other types of pipe fittings can be used to connect pipes for handrails and other architectural elements, where using a leak-proof connection is not a requirement. Pipe fitting may be threaded or welded, mechanically joined, or chemically adhered, depending on the material of the pipe.
Types of Pipe Fittings:
Various types of pipe fittings are used in the plumbing system for different purposes and functions. A pipe fitting is used to join multiple pipes of the same size or various sizes, to measure the flow or regulate the flow. Pipe fittings are made up of different materials like:
- Copper
- Iron
- PVC
- Brass, etc.
These fittings are generally used in mechanical and plumbing operations for multiple purposes. Plumbing fittings types include the following:
PVC Pipes:
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a versatile thermoplastic primarily known as a piping and fitting material used for commercial and residential plumbing applications. PVS pipes are excessively used for manufacturing sewage pipes, water mains, and irrigation.
It helps conserving energy by creating virtually leak-free pipes that are not prone to corrosion and withstand environmental stress. The application of PVC pipes improves functionality and increases energy efficiency.
Types of PVC Fittings:
PVC pipe fittings are generally categorized into four:
- PVC-U (unplasticized PVC) used for the transportation of drinking water.
- C-PVC (chlorinated PVC) has high durability and resistance to corrosion.
- PVC-O (molecular oriented PVC) is an excellent choice for pressure pies for drinking water.
- High Impact PVC (PVC-HI) increases the resistance of pipes to external blows.
Sanitary Pipe Fittings:
Sanitary pipe fittings include all components used to connect sanitary tubes or piping. Usually, it consists of all plumbing applications where sanitation and cleanliness are of primary concern. These piping systems and fittings can be generally found in pharmaceutical companies, food processing plants, and other facilities and that process consumable goods.
A sanitary fitting is used to connect two or more pipes or tubes or simply join these pipes to material supply drums. The end of each pipe is enclosed with a fitting to let users remove fluid, gases, or food products. Sanitary fitting application also includes valves to slow or control flow through the pipes or elbows to join pipes at an angle.
PVC pipe fittings in Pakistan are generally categorized into four:
- PVC-U (unplasticized PVC) used for the transportation of drinking water.
- C-PVC (chlorinated PVC) has high durability and resistance to corrosion.
- PVC-O (molecular oriented PVC) is an excellent choice for pressure pies for drinking water.
- High Impact PVC (PVC-HI) increases the resistance of pipes to external blows.
Elbow Pipe Fittings:
Elbow pipes are curved and are mainly used to change the direction of flow between two pipes. They are primarily designed with 22.5, 45, and 90-degree angles and can be threaded or sweated.
The ends of the elbow pipes are used for butt welding, threading, socketing. If pipes are of the same diameter, then standard elbow pipes are used; otherwise, reducer elbows are used. A reducing elbow pipe fitting has both ends of different sizes.
Elbow pipe fittings are made in these different materials:
- PVC
- Brass
- Chrome-plated brass
- CPVC
- Copper
- ABS
- Stainless steel
Dura Drain Pipes:
Dura drain pipes are generally used in drainage fittings. It facilitates the flow of water from one place to another. Its angles are designed to reduce turbulence and friction that could hamper the flow of water. They connect vertical drain pipes to horizontal ones.
Fittings may be made of different materials. The most important consideration is that each fitting must be of a material compatible with the material composition of the rest of the plumbing system. Some of the most important materials used to create fittings are steel, copper, brass, and PVC.
